2019 Arnold Classic comes to a dramatic end (Not Terminated), Will be back in 2020

19 May 2019 by Iain Smith

The 2019 Arnold Classic could not have had a better script. Beach Tennis at the highest level was played throughout the day on Alice Lane Beach. Clear skies, no wind, temperatures in mid 20’s, low tide all day, what a better setting for a final days play.
The women’s final ended up being a fairly one side contest with Ekaterina Byakina (RUS) and Magali Garnier (FRA) winning relatively comfortably.
With the sun setting on Sandton, the men’s final went into a dramatic third set, with everyone wondering if the event would be able to be concluded in the fading light. Never the less, beach tennis ended up being the winner and the Portugese team of Henrique Freitas and Pedro Maio winning a closely contested epic 3 set marathon.
Congratulations to all the medalists:
Women:
Byakina/Garnier – Gold
Cunha/Nikoyan – Silver
Jeske/Yelverton – Bronze
Men:
Freitas/Maio – Gold
Sakkas/Sianga – Silver
Baler/Ringlstetter – Bronze
We will be back in 2020!!
