10 Dec 2019 by Iain Smith

The KIA Summer Slam is not only about the professional players. Beach Tennis is a fun and engaging format of tennis, that makes the sport accessible and easy to play for everyone. Tuesday saw two clinics being held.

The first was conducted by local SA players, Frans Ledwaba (Gauteng), Lionel Jarrard (Gauteng) and Deandre Dreyer (Eastern Cape) all of whom played at the KIA SA National Finals at Badplaas earlier this year as well as Kyla Yelverton (Gauteng) and Jody Claassen (Western Cape), both members of the National Team that represented SA at the World Team Championships in Russia

The second clinic saw men’s top seeds, Manuel Ringlstetter (GER) and Gerard Rodriguez Querol (ESP) taking a number of top SA players through the paces The focus was on technique, but to also get a better understanding of the game and the tactics behind beach tennis

Gerard Rodriguez Querol is also the highest ranked men’s player at the event, ranked 12th this week on the ITF Beach Tennis World Rankings and is also the current Gold Medalist at the World Beach Games that took place in Doha in October.
