The second day of the $35,000 Plettenberg Bay leg of the KIA Summer Slam delivered world class beach tennis, with a couple of surprises along the way in the men’s section of the tournament.

The round of 16 and quarter finals were played today, with the South African pairings in both men and women’s section being eliminated, despite putting up a good show against very strong competition from around the globe.

Theo Irigaray, FRA, and Mattia Spoto (7), ITA, def. Andre Ricardo Baran, BRA, and Antomi Ramos Viera (2), ESP, 6-3 6-4

The teams of Ringlstetter/Rodriguez Querol and Irigaray/Spoto delivered the respective upsets of the tournament, proving that by playing the initial three events helped them peak at the right time. The two teams will square up in the semi finals against one another, with Ringlstetter/Rodriguez Querol hoping to be able to pull one victory back and not go down 4 – 0 in the series to Irigaray/Spoto who defeated them in the first three events of the KIA Summer Slam.
